Facts You May Not Know About Liposuction

Medical weight loss centers

If you need a little extra help with weight loss and removing excess fat, a liposuction procedure may be right for you. The laser liposuction procedure slims and reshapes different areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits. Even if you exercise regularly yet still have stubborn areas of fat, you may be a good candidate for liposuction. Both men and women have been increasingly getting liposuction surgery in the past years. In fact, different areas of the body can all be done on the same day and at the same time.

The Liposuction Procedure
A medical weight loss center can perform the liposuction procedure, and most of the time it is an outpatient procedure. Once you decide on a weight loss doctor, the doctor will give you a full physical exam to ensure you are a good candidate for liposuction. The ideal candidate is close to their target weight and has a BMI under 25. Liposuction can be performed under local, regional, or general anesthesia. If you have general anesthesia, the procedure will most likely be performed in the hospital.

Once the anesthesia starts working, the doctor will make a cut into the area where the liposuction will occur. A small canula will be used to suck out the fat allowing you to have smooth skin and defined muscles once the procedure is complete.

After the Procedure
After the liposuction procedure, you can leave the doctor’s office as soon as the doctor gives you the okay. In some cases, you will be instructed to wear tight garments to keep your skin compressed. Another thing your doctor will instruct you on is the level of activity you can perform after the liposuction surgery. It may be limited while you heal, so be prepared beforehand by lining up help for a day or so.

Results
The incisions the doctor makes during the procedure to assist with weight loss and fat removal are only 1-2mm. These tend to heal quickly as they are small incisions. Results can bee seen within a week and will continue over the next six to nine months. Be sure to keep up diet and exercise for the results to remain permanent.
