Thinning Or Balding Hair? These Procedures Might Be For You

It is not hard to see why hair has been closely linked to an individual’s confidence; it is hard for someone to feel desirable when they think their thinning hair or balding hair gets in the way. Hair is one of the first features you will see in a stranger, and luckily, science has brought us methods of regaining some of that confidence we may have lost.

While both men and women experience thinning and balding, men certainly got the worst end of the deal. If you took 100 different men off the streets, 85 of them, or 85 percent, will have experienced significant thinning in their life by the time they reached 50.

FUE Vs. FUSS

FUSS and FUE are hair transplant procedures that individuals can utilize in order to regain hair they lost. Both cause scarring, but to varying degrees, but most importantly, one is far more successful.

FUSS is an acronym for “Follicular Unit Strip Surgery.” This procedure removes a section of an individual’s scalp that still has hair and places it on the balding sections. If that sounds invasive, well, you would be right. You would also be right if you imagined FUSS leaving behind nasty scars. FUSS has a high complication rate, not to mention incredibly limiting, because the sections of the scalp that were removed, obviously, can’t be removed again.

FUE or “Follicular Unit Extraction,” on the other hand, is on the other end of the spectrum. An individual will experience a faster recovery rate, nor will they be left with large scars and not only is it minimally invasive, FUE patients will be have to know that they will be able to shave and even keep their hair short.

The reason FUE is the preferred method is because FUE obtains follicular units and these units typically contain one to four hairs. These hairs are then used for the transplant. However, sometimes a single graft will contain twice as many natural groupings.

What Can You Do About Scarring?

Regardless of which procedure you do, scarring will occur even if you chose FUE with its minimal scarring. A popular method of covering the scars is a procedure known as “micropigmentation.” If you are familiar with a tattoo, then you are familiar with micropigmentation. No surgery needed, no special procedure, just a simple tattoo! The tattoo is done with a combination of the remaining hair and clever shading, giving a head of thinning hair the illusion that it is thicker. When a man’s head of hair isn’t noticeable thin until half of it is gone, this can be a very minimalist method.
