Three Health Problems That Can Be Treated Through Natural Remedies

Remedies

More and more, people are becoming uncomfortable with the idea of taking too many medications — especially when they don’t have to. While there’s a pill for almost any ailment, not every problem that you might have with your body needs to be treated through medicine. In fact, you may want to focus less on taking a pill for every minor medical issue, and think more about how you can stay healthy and prevent those issues from coming up in the first place. For that matter, a number of minor medical problems have natural remedies. Something as simple as changing your diet practices can dramatically change your life, and make you feel much better. Of course, it’s important to note that you should keep your doctor informed — and seek medical treatment for more serious problems. But below, we’ll look at a few problems that can be treated through natural remedies.

1. Digestive Problems

Digestive diseases aren’t often talked about the way other medical problems are, because they’re considered by some to be embarrassing. But lots of people are affected by digestive diseases — the number is estimated to be between 60 and 70 million people. From 2009 to 2010 alone, doctors saw 51 million visits from people who turned out to have diseases of the digestive system. It’s important to stay on top of your digestive health; if you let a minor digestive disease get out of hand, you could very well end up in the hospital. It’s important to remember that your digestive system is affected by what you eat — and by changing your diet practices, you could foster much stronger digestive health. Of course, you may want to talk to a health coach or dietitian about how exactly you should change your diet practices; not every diet is right for everyone. Many, however, find that taking on more natural diet practices can result in better overall health — not just better digestive health. By removing refined sugars and processed foods from your diet and eating more vegetables and meats, you may very well find that whatever was troubling you isn’t as insurmountable a problem as you previously thought.

2. Migraines

A migraine is perhaps the worst type of headache that a person can be affected by. But they’re surprisingly prevalent, causing millions of people pain across the globe. The pain during a migraine is usually intense, and can last for hours — or in extreme cases, even days. Some people suffer from cluster headaches, which involve very frequent attacks. Migraines can sometimes be symptoms of more serious health problems; but often, there is no real known cause of migraines. In about 50% of patients, migraines go undiagnosed and untreated — and less than 50% of migraine patients seek treatment from a physician. This is because often, all a doctor can do is prescribe painkillers. However, this can be difficult to manage if you have frequent migraines, and understandably, you might not be comfortable taking a large amount of migraine medication. Luckily, there are natural treatments available for migraines. While it might take some trial and error to decide which one is right for you, lots of people have had success in lowering the frequency of their migraines through switching to a gluten-free diet. Magnesium has also been known to remedy migraines, as has lavender oil and peppermint oil.

3. Insomnia

An inability to get a proper night’s sleep might not seem like a health problem, but it can quickly become one if it gets out of control. It’s estimated that between 50 and 70 million people in the United States suffer from wakefulness disorders of some kind. Many medications for insomnia are rather intense, and can have severe side effects. This is why you might want to seek out natural treatments, like aromatherapy. Seeking out natural remedies for insomnia can lead to better sleep, and better health.

Natural treatments aren’t right for everyone; but in many cases, they can help you feel better without side effects.
