Most women who have uterine fibroids never need to consider their treatment options, as far more often than not, their tumors prove to be harmless and benign. Some women, however, will have to take stock of their uterine fibroids treatment options.
If you’re wondering whether or not now is the time that you should consider uterine fibroid treatments, here are a few of the times when most women begin thinking about their options.
When You Are at Risk.
Some women, unfortunately, are more at risk than others. Women who are in their 30’s and 40’s, have a family history of fibroids, are of an African-American ethnic origin, are overweight, and eat a lot of red meat are more likely to need fibroid treatments, as they’re at a higher risk of developing problematic fibroids.
When You Experience the Signs and Symptoms of Fibroids.
One of the most obvious signs that fibroid treatments are needed is when a woman begins experiencing the symptoms of fibroid cysts. Some such symptoms that would warrant the need for fibroid treatments include heavy menstrual bleeding, lower back pain, abdominal pressure, frequent urination, and pain during intercourse.
When You’re Thinking About Conceiving.
According to the American Society For Reproductive Medicine, certain types of fibroids are known to decrease fertility, such as fibroids that are inside the uterine cavity and are very large, or ones that are within the wall of the uterus. Just because a woman has fibroids does not mean her chances of conceiving are lower, and it’s best to speak to a fertility specialist in these cases before thinking about fibroid treatments.
Not all women need to receive treatment for their fibroids, and, in fact, most don’t. However, there are certain situations and scenarios that do warrant medical treatment, such as being at risk of developing problematic fibroids, having symptomatic fibroids, and when thinking about conceiving.
