Substance use disorders and drug addiction are prevalent within the United States. While some individuals may not believe they have an issue, the reverse may be true. Hydrocodone consumption was also a concern during this year. According to the International Narcotics Control Board, 99.7% of the global consumption of this drug occurred within the United States. Cocaine is another commonly used substance, particularly with the 18 to 25 age group, as reported in a National Institutes on Health report. This age group is also the most likely to abuse this drug. Due to issues related to methamphetamine usage, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that over 4,5000 individuals died.
Substance Abuse Issues for 2016
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration reported that approximately 11.5 million Americans aged 12 and older misused prescription pain medication during this year. There were also over 63,600 deaths due to overdoses within the United States. This includes 42,249 deaths that involved some type of opioid. This amounts to an average of 115 opioid deaths on a daily basis.
